DIVINE DIVA INTERVIEW WITH RUBY GETTINGER

When you were starting out in your career how did you know you were making the right choice as far as pursuing that career for yourself?

Since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help people.  I knew it was my God given destiny.  So, I went to college to be a psychologist.  I remember reading about people who had murdered someone or kidnapped, abused and molested a child.  I could not wrap my head around it!! I needed to know the “why”.  I had this burning urge to study the minds of people.

I ended up being a life coach, and I love it so much.

Who were your biggest influences growing up?

My beautiful mom and dad.

When you faced obstacles or fears along the way how did you overcome them, and move beyond them?

There are days where I feel like, "Oh, I can't even get out of bed or on the treadmill.  I can't do this." Some days it literally takes an hour or two to convince myself to get on that treadmill!  I have to be my own best friend.

I also have to become my own private detective to find out what’s going on mentally.

I have the information ... what will I do with it?  I must use my tools and do the work.

I have to be my own diva (lol) and tell myself ...

“You are beautiful!

You are amazing!

You can do this!”

And I would tell anyone else that struggles with overcoming obstacles the same thing I tell myself ...”You are strong and worthy of living this life that has been given to you.  Do not waste anymore of this beautiful life God has given you.  Get up and do this now!! It’s not that you can’t, it’s that you don’t want to. Fight for you!!! It's your turn to be Hacky (happy)!”

What or who inspires you and why?

The movie that documented Helen Keller’s life was so inspiring to me! .

Helen Keller was deaf, blind and mute.  She was hopeless. BUT she was able to overcome the obstacles in her life because her teacher and friend, Anne Sullivan, believed in her when no one else did. Because of ONE person’s belief, Helen Keller changed the world.

Another inspiration to me was an Oprah Show episode about obese shut-ins. It was also completely “eye opening” for me.  On this episode, there were people that were obese, but still smaller than me!

And they were talking about how they never went out of their houses. They were crying. They didn’t go anywhere. They went to fast food restaurants if they were going to go eat somewhere. They didn't go to the movies or the mall because of the way people stared at them and treated them.  And it broke my heart because I was totally different. I still went out and enjoyed life!

It opened my eyes to the fact that something was totally wrong with this. What is going on, that we can't beat this obesity?? Is this just a hand to mouth motion? Is this just some eating habit that we just do not know about, OR is this mental, physical and spiritual? I wanted to find out the truth!! It made me dig in deeper to discover the truth about myself so I can help others.

If you could go back in time and change anything about your life would you change anything? If so what would you change and why?

Two things ...

First, I would have seen a therapist or life coach much earlier in life and secondly, I wouldn’t have fallen for narcissistic men.

I would have changed who I fell in love with.

Having a therapist or life coach would have prevented a lot of heart break and wasted time!

Being in love, I put aside my life, my happiness, my wants and needs to make the guy 150% happy.

I spent so much energy trying to make them happy, trying to ensure they wouldn’t leave me because I had so many abandonment issues already. When I look back at this time of my life, it EXHAUSTS me!!

Unfortunately, you didn’t hear much about therapy or life coaching 20 years ago.

Thank God for my therapist Jane Weilenman and Life coach Lou Kaucic! With their wisdom and help, I conquered so much.

Btw ... therapy works!!  I started liking a guy that was pursuing me. And because of my therapy and life coaching, I saw the warning signs (RED FLAGS!!) after 4 interactions with this guy. I stopped cold turkey!! Whew!!

I am so proud of this.  Yay Ruby!!!

Ha!

What do you feel is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is loving people unconditionally. There are people in this world that have never felt love from family, friends, significant others etc.  I have encountered people who feel that I have been the first person who has ever made them feel encouraged. I wish that everyone could feel supported in whatever they are doing or feeling. People turn to addiction, gangs, prostitution, cults and so many other paths to just feel accepted and loved. I hope to give them a positive outlet to let their emotions and feelings be heard. I hope they feel that from my message.

What are the most important lessons you have learned along the way?

I must put on the oxygen mask first.

Don’t trust people so easily; this is still a hard one for me.  Never fail to try more.  Take care of my health early!

Be thankful daily!

Life goes by so fast, and time will not wait for me.

Do not be so hard on yourself.

Enjoy my life.

What is the best advice you would give other women who are not sure what path to choose in their life?

Be a student of YOU! What are your talents? What are your dreams?

You must search within and find yourself; your needs, wants and desires. Do not wait for someone else to fill them!! Each one of us was born in this time, in this generation, for a reason — we all must fight to live our God given destiny! That is the thing that burns inside you and will not let you go. It is your passion! Go live it, whatever it takes!

What do you hope others will remember most about you and your life?

I hope people remember that I laugh a lot!!  I love being crazy.  I love life and will never give up on me or anyone else!  I hope I make people feel like they are not alone, that we are ALL fighting some kind of battle in the soul, mind and body! We all fight some kind of addiction. I hope I have encouraged people to reach out and ask for help and that not everyone is bad. I hope people realize that most things are out of our hands.

I pray that I lived my God given destiny.

And most of all that My God, and Jesus was my foundation throughout my life.

What does success mean to you?

Success is being happy in your own skin, as well as loving people unconditionally.

We should always be   bettering our soul, mind and body. And of course, reaching out to help others throughout our entire lives.

I hope you enjoyed this inspirational interview with Ruby. I first heard about Ruby several years ago when she has a television show. I got hooked on it because her personality, strength, and light was undeniable and I just had to watch it. When I came across her on social media, I Just knew I had to interview here and introduce her to those who might not know her.  You can find here with the links below.
